**CORONA VIRUS UPDATE**

Gateway Electronic Components made an early decision during this emergency to remain open, so long as permitted to do so, and continue to offer its support to all customers, especially those supporting the response to Covid-19.

Since making this decision we have been receiving requests from UK and overseas customer involved in the manufacture of medical equipment used in front line support to those that are stricken, as well as those supplying other infrastructure equipment.

Gateway has now also registered its offer to help the public sector maintain their services during the coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak, more details of which can be found here: https://www.crowncommercial.gov.uk/covid-19/covid-19-buyer-information/catalogue-of-supplier-offers/

We are constantly reviewing our ability to satisfy the demands made by our customers and would wish to extend our sincere gratitude to the staff of the manufacturers that we represent for keeping their factories and supply lines open during this time of crisis. We are however aware of a small number of supply limitations and will be notifying these directly to those customers whose orders may be affected.

Our machine shop production facility continues to operate and indeed has the capacity to increase its levels of production to meet any new demand as a result of the emergency. We have received requests for urgent turnaround of prototype parts and will do all we can to meet the volume production requirements that our customers wish us to fulfil when approval has been granted and full-scale production is required.

Our team of support staff are here to help in any way we can to enable our customers to provide a response.

The previous updates that are detailed below are still applicable.

A review of the risk assessment and precautionary measures taken by Gateway has been completed following the published updates to government directives.

We are now getting early indications of possible delays to supplies of products from countries where embargoes have been imposed and will be notifying customers individually when we know more about the impact on specific product availability. We are also aware of delays at some border control points across European state boundaries which may delay the supply of some products into freight hubs en-route to the UK. Again, when more is known about the specific threat to supply these will be reviewed and communicated accordingly.

The comments posted on our blog a few days ago and detailed below still stand, and we have adequate stock of products to meet most known and forecast demand. Our website www.gatewaycando.com will display free stock availability on all profile parts in our inventories and these are currently available for next day delivery in the UK and on export delivery timings to overseas customers. At the present time we have received no warning of delays to shipments directly from our range of UK and international carriers.

Gateway will remain open unless instructed to do so by the government and if we are unable to receive ‘essential’ status. The company has registered with www.gov.uk as being able to provide support to of the response to Covid-19 and thereby seek essential business status.

The company has received requests to maintain open supply channels from some of its customers that manufacture equipment and sub-assemblies that support the response to Covid-19 including medical diagnostic equipment, respirators, ventilators, nebulisers, medical instrumentation, magnetic imaging devices, power generation components, power supplies, transformers and components used within security, premise access and drug manufacturing.

We have assessed the risk of threat to our staff and determined that some of the team will need to work from home, and they will work remotely with those that remain on-site to maintain supplies of products from our warehouse to meet the needs of our customers. Staff still working on-site have been issued with Key Worker notices to ensure they are able to travel unhindered to the company premises.

We have also initiated a sanitisation programme for incoming shipments as well as sanitisation and hygiene controls in all work areas to try to ensure that goods received into and goods leaving our warehouse are as free from infection as is reasonably possible. We will continue to review our practices in light of changing advice and conditions. Our staff are upholding the recommended distancing measures while at work.

We are monitoring on a daily basis the risk to supplies from the factory locations of the manufacturers we represent and are providing updates to any customers that may be impacted by delays. If risk has been identified to the supply of parts that are used within applications that provide support to the response to Covid-19 we will seek out alternative channels of supply to attempt to maintain continuity. As a further precaution we have decided to raise the levels of safety stock built in by our purchasing algorithms to increase our stock holding on fast moving profile items as well as dedicated buffer inventories in support of contract customers. We have also raised the review window that we add to the manufacturer leadtime so that we can protect our customers from supply and demand vagaries caused by the current uncertainty. However , we also recommend that our customers review their forward orderbook on high sensitivity items to ensure there is adequate firm orderbook commitment to cover the manufacturer leadtime and an appropriate additional review period, so that some protection is afforded against supply and demand vagaries in line with their expected build-plans.

We are in constant contact with our base of carriers for incoming and outgoing supplies to monitor the impact of any local, national or global effects from the outbreak. We will take remedial action wherever possible to attempt to mitigate the risk to supply. Should these be of specific or general concern then further updates on the issue will be posted on our website or direct contact will be made with any customers that may be impacted.

The company is ready to engage with customers that seek further reassurance on any areas of concern and is indeed prepared and willing to facilitate additional levels of protection to support its customers in this period of uncertainty.

A risk assessment of the current situation surrounding the Corona virus has been undertaken by the company. We have analysed the potential impact of the virus on our international supply chain and the distribution infrastructure here in the UK.

We do not want to add further uncertainty during this period, so until we hear to the contrary we are pleased to be able to report that the exceptional levels of service that customers have come to expect from Gateway will be reliably maintained.
