CatM
CAT-M1 also known as LTE-M is designed for Low power applications requiring medium data throughput. It has a tighter bandwidth of 1.4Mhz (compared to the 20 MHz of regular LTE), this provides longer range but less throughput. It utilises the same cell handover features of regular LTE allowing for mobility support.
Security as Standard
Particle devices provide security as a default and all products and processes are designed with security in mind so you don't have to be a certified network security engineer to use the platform. Every message sent through particle is encrypted and secure (No plaintext allowed!), as well as all devices being given hardware keys preventing any unauthorised hardware from accessing your fleet. Particle continually monitor their servers and security network to ensure that all devices stay locked down, to aid this no incoming ports are left open for port scanners!
LTE
LTE cellular technology or more commonly known as 4G was an advancement on 2G (GSM) and 3G (UMTS). LTE stands for Long-Term-Evolution and its goal was to increase speed and capacity of cellular networks, it achieved this by utilising DSP (digital signal processing) techniques and modulations. LTE technology operates on a wide variety of frequency bands that differ depending on the country ranging from 450 MHZ to 3700 MHZ.
WiFi
Wi-Fi is something we are all more than familiar with in our day to day lives. It is commonly used to provide local area networking of devices and internet access, allowing for nearby devices to exchange data via radio waves. Most commonly used for computer networks Wi-Fi is ever present in the modern day home, office space and public areas.
